The Grays Inn Medical Practice is committed to being an organisation that actively promotes equality, and one that reflects the diversity of the local community. Our aim is to provide services that respect diverse cultures and experiences and that do not discriminate on any grounds.

The Practice:
•    Will ensure that all visitors are treated with dignity and respect.
•    Will not tolerate any discrimination against, or harassment of, any visitor for reason of age, sex, marital status, pregnancy, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, trans status, religion or belief.
•    Will provide the same treatment and services (including the ability to register with the Practice) to any visitor irrespective of age, sex, marital status, pregnancy, race, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, trans status, religion or belief.

The practice will ensure that staff understand how to positively promote diversity and equality in their execution of work activities and by their own attitudes and behaviour. Everyone must be aware that their actions influence others and therefore being positive about diversity and equality will have a positive influence in the workplace and the wider community that the practice serves.

All staff will undertake Eqaulity and Diversity training every 3 years.

The Practice works hard to improve health throughout the communities we serve and ensure high quality services for all by:
•    Providing interpreting services for patients who do not speak English as a first language or require a sign language interpreter
•    Providing as much documentation as possible in other languages or formats
•    Wherever possible recruiting staff locally to ensure that our staff reflects the local population we serve. 
•    In all job vacancies inviting applications from candidates who speak a locally prevalent language, in addition to English.
•    Promoting and explaining services to local groups who may find accessing or understanding services difficult, for any reason.
•    Providing appropriate training for all frontline staff including 
•    Collecting and monitoring data regarding staff and patient ethnicity, language, disability and religion.
•    Providing the best possible physical access to the premises.
•    Ensuring our registration process is non-discriminatory and ensuring that anyone who is entitled to NHS treatment and lives within our catchment area is able to register at the practice.

Discrimination by the Practice against you

If you feel discriminated against You should bring the matter to the attention of the Practice Manager. The Practice Manager will investigate the matter thoroughly and confidentially within 5 working days and will establish the facts and decide whether discrimination has taken place. You will be advised of the outcome of the investigation within 10 working days.

If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you can raise a formal complaint through the Practice’s Complaints Procedure.

Discrimination against the Practice’s staff

The Practice will not tolerate any form of discrimination or harassment of our staff by any patient or visitor. Any patient or visitor who expresses any form of discrimination against (or harassment of) any member of our staff will be informed that their behaviour was inappropriate and will be required to leave the Practice’s premises forthwith. If the visitor is a patient, they may be removed from the Practice’s list if any such behaviour occurs on more than one occasion or immediately if the situation has required the intervention of the police.
